Anti-cancer diet November 24, 2004 Nutrition and lifestyle play a significant role in cancer prevention.
The American Institute of Cancer Research and the World Cancer Research Fund estimate that 30-40 percent of all cancers can be prevented by appropriate diets, physical activity, and maintenance of appropriate body weight.
Some of the factors that influence the risk of cancers are:
- Obesity
- Nutrient-sparse foods like refined flour and concentrated sugars
- Low fibre intake
- Consumption of red meat
An imbalance of omega-3 (found in fish oil) and omega-6 (found in evening primrose oil) fatty acids
Reductions of 60 percent in breast cancer rates have been seen in human diet studies, as has a 71 percent reduction in colon cancer for men without the known modifiable risk factors. These reductions are without taking into account many other factors such as an increased fruit and vegetable intake, balanced omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and a reduced sugar intake. They conclude that “certainly cancer prevention would be possible, and cancer reversal in some cases is quite likely’.
What if all these factors reviewed were taken into consideration and put into practice?
The researchers believe that the anti-cancer diet would include:
- Adequate, but not excessive calories
- 10 or more servings of vegetables a day, including cruciferous (broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and Brussels sprouts) and allium (garlic and onion) vegetables; vegetable juice could be included
- Four or more servings of fruit a day
- High in fibre
- No refined sugar
- No refined flour
- No red meat
Low in total fat, but containing necessary amounts of essential fatty acids
A balanced ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, including DHA
Sources of phytoestrogens (flax seed)
Selenium – supplementation with approximately 200 micrograms per day
Vitamin B12 – supplementation with approximately 1,000 micrograms per day
Rich sources of folic acid (found in dark green vegetables)
Sunlight – to get vitamin D
Antioxidants and phytochemicals from fruits and vegetables including (alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, vitamin C, vitamin E)
Rich sources of chlorophyll
Supplemention with probiotics and enzymes.
When a diet is prepared according to the guidelines here, it is possible that there would be at least a 60 to 70 percent decrease in breast, colorectal and prostate cancers, and even a 40 to 50 percent decrease in lung cancer, along with similar reductions in cancers at other sites. Such a diet would be conducive to preventing cancer, and would favour recovery from cancer as well.

Anti-cancer diet for unborn child 28 August 2004

WOMEN who eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and protein-rich foods before pregnancy are less likely to have a baby with leukaemia.
The study is the first to relate a mother’s overall diet, rather than specific supplements or foods, to her child’s cancer risk.
Researchers compared the diets of 138 women whose children had leukaemia with controls. The higher the intake of vegetables, fruit and protein foods during the year before pregnancy, the lower the risk of having a child with leukaemia. Carrots, string beans and cantaloupe stood out as being the most protective.
“We’re starting to see the importance of the prenatal environment, since the events that may lead to leukaemia are possibly initiated in utero,” says co-author Patricia Buffler, an epidemiologist at the University of California, Berkeley. The report appears in this month’s Cancer Causes & Control. From issue 2462 of New Scientist magazine, 28 August 2004, page 14
Children’s Health
The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) recently issued its final draft of revised cancer assessment guidelines. This draft updates guidelines developed in 1986 [Note the date here! – it is now 2007. Have you been told about this? Apparently, it is still a “draft” version!], based on new scientific understanding of how cancer is caused and the effects of cancer-causing substances on different groups, such as children. When finalized, the new guidelines will apply to pesticides and other chemicals that may be released into the environment. Government analysis on which the new standards are based shows the following:
* Children accumulate half of their lifetime cancer risk by age two.
* On average, children up to age two are 10 times more vulnerable to cancer-causing chemicals than adults.
* Some cancer-causing substances are up to 65 times more potent for infants than adults.
* Children from age 2 to 15 are 3 times more vulnerable to carcinogens than adults.
* Children are exposed to more cancer-causing substances because pound for pound, they eat more food and breathe more air than adults do.
* Children’s bodies can’t process or get rid of toxins as easily as adults.
* Children’s organ’s continue to grow for years after birth and are easily damaged by chemicals in their food and in their environment.
* Early exposures give cancers time to develop. Cancers are not caused by one event or one chemical; they grow over time. Over the years, new exposures may trigger cancers in cells damaged during childhood.

All disease is multi factorial
What this means is that there are many causes of disease and many diseases can have multiple causes . Genetic & heredity, environmental -toxins,pollution etc, dietary & nutritional and Psychological & stress factors
So for this reason alone I would try to incorporate as many aspects as possible into health regime for any disease including cancer .

The value of Green Tea in the treatment and prevention of cancer
Extract below from Cancer Tutor .com. Please follow the links in this article if you wish to use green tea preventatively or slow down cancer spread. Fortunately, green tea can be combined with virtually any other alternative or conventional treatment.
Green tea is available from supermarkets .I cannot give you the best tea available but I personally drink Matcha green tea .(Matcha is a fine powder tea that I recommend for people who cannot stomach green tea – just buy empty capsules )
I also love white tea and can consume far more white than green tea .I personally like the chinese ball teas-you pop them in a cup and they uncurl when you add water .Delightfully pretty as well
White tea has a no caffeine level therefore you can drink as much as you like .
Researches suggest white tea has more antioxidants than green tea. White tea has gone through the most natural (pick and dry) process in terms of tea processing, it requires more generous brewing time
I have also written an e book on Herb teas if you would like more information on a variety common kitchen herbs for common ailments.

How It Works
Green Tea Polyphenols (GTP), particularly EGCG or EGCg (epigallocatechin gallate) not only inhibit an enzyme required for cancer cell growth, but also kills cancer cells with no ill effect on healthy cells.
Green Tea
Dry green tea leaves are about 40% polyphenols by weight, and the most potent of these is EGCG. A team of scientists at Purdue University determined: “In the presence of EGCg, the cancer cells literally failed to grow or enlarge after division then presumably because they did not reach the minimum size needed to divide they underwent programmed cell death, or apoptosis.” EGCG, an antioxidant, is considered many times more potent than the Vitamin E or Vitamin C antioxidant properties. In a 1997 study, researchers from the University of Kansas determined that EGCG is twice as powerful as resveratrol, which itself is known to kill cancer cells (see the Grape Cure page).
Green Tea is also a key element of cancer prevention. “Researchers have known for years that the incidence of prostate cancer is considerably lower in Asian countries. One possible explanation advanced by scientists is the high consumption of plant foods among Asian populations. Another is the growing number of laboratory studies indicating that green tea * the most popular tea in China, Japan and other Asian countries * has anti-tumor effects. Black tea is more popular in Western countries. Worldwide, about 80 percent of the tea consumed is black tea. Both teas come from the same plant (Camellia sinensis). Black tea is fermented; green tea is not. Next to water, tea is the most widely consumed beverage in the world. Green tea contains more polyphenols * chemicals that act as powerful antioxidants and nontoxic, cancer preventive agents * than black tea. It has been speculated that the low lung cancer rate in Japan * despite the high rate of smoking * is due to green tea consumption.”
Supercharging This Treatment
It would be a shame if someone went on a Green Tea treatment plan without also adding a few nutrients to make it a Dr. Rath Cellular Solution or Osiecki Cancer Technique treatment plan. Both of these treatment plans use Green Tea, but they add other nutrients that supercharge the Green Tea’s ability to stop the spread of cancer cells. This diet must be supplemented with treatments that kill cancer cells.

PSA for males
Women with a family history of breast cancer or those who test positive for theBRCA1 (breast cancer gene 1) orBRCA2 (breast cancer gene 2) mutations may want to talk to their physicians about beginning annual screening mammograms earlier than age 40, as early as age 25 in some cases.
The information in these links are for general information. Cancer is not something you treat on your own .Please print the information and take to your GP /Oncologist , after all they want you to be well .Though many natural products may not have scientific proven efficacy ,many suggests are logical when you consider that the rational that if you don’t eat you die. Therefore food does have a therapeutic effect. Foods are the building blocks that make your body.So it is also logical that foods can help or harm .
So why not include digestible food concentrates(supplements) along with a health promoting diet as recommended above to optimise your bodies innate healing ability
